Hi, folks, and a Happy Easter to all! Altogether now, "Christ the Lord is Risen today, Allelujah!"
Well, even if you don't follow along with the New Testament, it's a beautiful day in north Florida. And I'm starting this weblog with a challenge to Floridians who long for statesmanship, and stateswomanship, in our state capital. Step one: Let's repeal the term limit amendment.
I believe this is step one because nothing of import will happen within our state legislature as long as the lobbyists have more tenure than our representatives and senators. Whenever I stand on Kleman Plaza during session, I can identify the representatives and differentiate them from the lobbyists because of age and wardrobe. The reps are the ones wearing the black suits and brown shoes. Rookies, elected in small districts by their parents' friends or because they come from money, knowing that public service in Florida is just a stepping stone to a high-paying job with one of the firms or corporations that now tell them how to vote.
Scary? Damn right. But, while I oppose almost every effort to change our Constitution, I support certain efforts to change it back - to admit to the mistake and make amends.
This is one of those times, and it's never been so important. Let me know your thoughts, and let me know if you would support a petition drive to accomplish this.
Again, happy Easter, and welcome to my rant.
